Most of our work in class is discussion based, so I would like to increase opportunities for reading in class. My students read for ELA, but providing additionally opportunities in Math and Science can allow huge gains in language for all students, especially English Language Learners. Studies show that students who read for 15 minutes per day have substantial improvement in their linguistic abilities, these results only compound when they read for longer periods of time! These Scholastic magazines will provide excellent opportunities for extra reading practice in a fun way! I remember reading these when I was in school and they were so fun and interesting... these things never help in motivating our students to have a love of learning and reading, in all subject areas :)
