My building is in desperate need of a new xylophone. When we built this building in 2012 the school district did not build in the cost of purchasing an entire band's worth of equipment. We shared instruments from our high school and middle school. Currently, the xylophone we use is over 25 years old and in disrepair. Middle school bands often get the overused hand-me-downs from their high school bands. This particular xylophone has been utilized in marching bands and has been retrofitted with pneumatic wheels and a field frame. The Keylon is beginning to fray and has lost most of its resonance. This instrument is better than nothing and my students work really hard to master techniques on the instrument. However, they need to hear how a resonant instrument should sound.
