My classroom has two large (7 foot) windows that have remained uncovered for two years. Within the last two years, students have expressed worry and anxiety in regards to the windows in case there is an emergency. In order for students to learn, they MUST feel safe! The blackout curtains and curtain rods will be used to give the classroom a home-like feel, and make students feel safe in case of an emergency. If there is an emergency, the curtains can be closed to ensure students' safety. My curriculum includes community, national, and global issues that empower students to be critical thinkers, and active citizens. In order for this to be successful, students MUST have a safe and comfortable environment where they can learn, build relationships, and be empowered!
