Stress and anxiety are staples in our society and this is true for our high school students as well. Intense academics, busy schedules and the constant influx of information from digital media add to the stress level of many students. This space is a section of our library media center that is being dedicated to mindfulness and being disconnected from phones and computers. This request helps create a mindfulness space in our media center disconnected from electronics and phones. A space dedicated to stress-reduction techniques: soothing sounds such as the waterfall and rain stick from this grant, soft lighting instead of just the overhead bulbs, a soothing area rug and soft seating, will help bring life to this designated space. The library will highlight mental health, social emotional learning, and anxiety resources, provide a cool-down space for stressed teens, as well as calming activities such as adult coloring, puzzles, optional meditation recordings and yoga mats. This area will be named The Disconnect, as no phone or computer use will be allowed; students are encouraged to learn to manage stress for improved well-being.
