After being out of the physical school environment for a year, many of my students have inadvertently adopted a new approach to learning and to education in general. Because many of them worked increased hours during the pandemic, their motivation to be back in the regular classroom setting has changed significantly. Being back in a classroom means that their hours at work will decrease. Many of them have also not been socialized to recognize; the value of an education, their ability to impact their community or the potential that they each possess. By creating a wall of fame with their photographs, through “Project Paparazzi”, I hope to shift students' focus back to being in school full time and to motivate them to persevere despite the new challenges they might face. Project paparazzi (taking instant pictures of students and captioning them with their achievements) will highlight and celebrate all their wins; whether school or community-related. I believe this kind of intervention is essential, because now, more than ever, students need to be reminded that academic excellence and community involvement can unlock doors to which they would otherwise not have access. This intervention is also needed to show them that are appreciated for the resilience they showed during the pandemic and that their efforts did not go unnoticed. Hopefully, this encourages them to remain committed to their educational goals despite the challenges that they might face in the aftermath of the pandemic.
