The middle school students I am targeting with this project are my struggling readers, for whom reading for enjoyment rarely happens because it has always been such a frustrating and laborious “task.” Many of these wonderful students come from financially needy homes where quality books are not available to them and the opportunity to own a Nook on their own is not a reality. For many of them, school is their only exposure to great literature. With the right books and the right tool, these students can turn from reluctant readers into voracious readers who “choose” to read rather than feeling “forced” to read. The Nook will be a great tool to stir up excitement in reading for these struggling readers and build their confidence.
