Fitness is a big part of our learning standards for 3rd through 5th graders but we don't limit it to those grades. All grades learn about heart rate, exercise and fitness components. We do age appropriate fitness stations at all grade levels. Fitness and health education helps give students the tools they need to take charge of their health in the future. If you don't take care of your body, where will you live someday? This set of aerobic steps can be used in multiple ways with different exercises, adding another fitness component with real world applications. The kids love doing exercises that they see adults and pro athletes doing. It helps make fitness challenging, meaningful and fun. Teaching kids about health and fitness is important not just for the here and now but for their future health. If we can get them to like moving now, they are more likely to do it in the future. My hope is to help kids enjoy moving so they will do it for life.
