My students are a very diverse group, and all of them have special needs. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but all of them struggle with emotional regulation and behavior issues. They attend a separate facility K-12 public school for students with serious emotional disturbances. Because of our small class size, I am able to work with them individually to meet their unique needs. My students are developing social skills and anger management techniques. They are also learning to follow rules and respect boundaries. They are intelligent, funny, and unique, children who truly want to learn and form meaningful, respectful relationships with others. In a small group environment they learn to form friendships, be good citizens, respect adults, and support each other in their learning. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, my students enjoy arts and crafts, games, time with therapy dogs, field trips, and many more opportunities for positive experiences at our school.
