My Kindergarten scholars are in their first year of their Dual Language Immersion education. Approximately half of our class is a native Spanish speaker and the other a native English speaker. We are all learning in a bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural classroom. Our scholars do not have much at home, but they give their all as part of our class. Eighty-six percent of scholars qualify for a free/reduced-price lunch. About a quarter of our class stays late after school as part of our child care program through The YMCA. We are a low income community but we make up for our limited resources with unlimited effort.
