My goal is to create Spanish book clubs that will engage students with authentic texts instead of translated English classics. This will give us the opportunity to discuss relevant issues of immigration and the experiences of children and families living in Spanish-speaking countries in a more in-depth way. Additionally, I am hoping to move towards establishing a Gifted and Talented program which bridges the linguistic and cultural gap and includes a more representative number of Spanish-speaking students. By starting these book clubs with books that are both appropriate linguistically and relatable culturally, I believe it can be a great first start!
