My students are learning Algebra I and Geometry. The majority of students are in the Algebra I class and one of them is in a Geometry section. They are curious about the world around them and how to apply math to what they are learning. In Algebra I they utilize calculators daily to problem-solve equations in real-world situations involving gravity, interest, cost/profit analysis, and statistics. Currently they are using quadratic functions to represent launched objects and the impact of gravity. My one geometry student is studying proofs, shapes and their relationships, and how to apply algebraic concepts to geometry. He is currently studying circle construction on the coordinate plane. These students deserve the best access to the resources that will help make them the most successful. As they learn to apply their learning of math, the calculators help them to visualize and make tangible the equations.
