My students are incredible learners who work hard every day to overcome reading challenges. In our Special Education Resource Reading class, many read several years below grade level and need explicit, targeted instruction to build foundational literacy skills. They often struggle with decoding unfamiliar and multisyllabic words, reading fluently, understanding vocabulary, remembering what they read, and making sense of grade-level texts. Many have learning disabilities and have experienced years of frustration with reading, causing them to doubt their abilities. My goal is to provide a supportive, engaging classroom where they can practice essential reading skills, celebrate small victories, and develop the confidence to see themselves as capable, successful readers.
