How many times were you forced to read a book that you just couldn't connect with? You struggled and struggled and, despite your best efforts, you performed miserably on the assessment. Many students today, including mine, are faced with the same difficulties. The books that they are asked to read are older and have out of date content. I can't tell you how many times I have announced which book we will be reading and I get the audible groan as a response. These kids need and deserve reading materials that they will be excited to read. I have watched, in awe, as some of my struggling readers have dove head first into current books, outside of class, and have finished it in record time. These students have a newfound love of reading and I want each of my students to experience this feeling.
