My students are here for a second chance. They are all transfer students-- over-aged but under-credited-- and have come to our school to get back on track and graduate. Many of them have had a rocky path-- poor grades and attendance, difficult home lives, inconsistency at every turn. Almost all are performing below grade level and have a great deal of difficulty with motivation to attend school. School has, until now, been a place they associate with failure. Our school aims to change that. We have small classes, two teachers to a classroom, and a comprehensive program that focuses on sports, youth development and restorative justice. Students travel to classes in same-sex teams and each team has a coach to advise and look out for them.
