My class of inner city, public school, esl 1st graders this year is a mix of general and special education students. I am trying to instill in them a love for learning but its difficult when they do not have a carpet to sit on to learn! These students are faced with many challenges. Many come from poverty stricken homes and cannot afford much.. Besides speaking English as a second language, many of them have additional learning disabilities which make school challenging for them. For the most part, they come to school ready and willing to learn and face those challenges, so I am doing my best to help them overcome their challenges and have a successful school year.
