Our pre-k classroom is the stop that kiddos arrive at before they go on to kindergarten. In a short 10 months, my kiddos learn 26 capital letters, 26 lower case letters, 26 sounds, and 10 numbers. To teach and engage 15 little energetic bodies, we have to keep it fun and exciting at all times. To keep our little angels engaged in what the letter of the week says and looks like, we create a craft to help that stand out. On the letter Vv week we make "volcanoes" out of different shades of red, orange, and yellow tissue paper. When we are trying to get them to learn the letter Gg we make a guitar out of craft paper and pipe cleaners. When we taught the letter Mm we "marble" painted, and the turnout was amazing! The students had a blast, got a little dirty, but they all knew what "marble" painting started with! I love teaching through art because our students get to learn a specific letter and sound by bringing to life whatever word we talked about.
