Kindle Fires, Ablenet, and switches will make a profound difference in my students' lives. Through the use of these items, my students will have a "voice" that will allow them to communicate with others and the world around them. Students will use the Kindle Fires and switches in a variety of ways. The Kindle Fires will be used to run a program called LetMeTalk. LetMeTalk enables you to line up images in a meaningful way to read this row of images as a sentence (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). They will also use the devices to use programs such as ABC Mouse, StarFAll, Writing Wizard, and many others. Students who are not ready to use the Fires will use the switches to communicate with others. It will allow them to answer yes/no questions, pick between two choices, and answer questions with two answer choices. It will also allow them to participate in classroom discussion by assigning the switch with a response. Through the use of these items, my students will be able to interact with the world around them and strengthen their communication skills in turn building confidence to interact in a land that sometimes feels foreign to them.
