Having a rug in the classroom will help my students with sensory integration. For many of my students, sitting on the floor serves as an anchor for focusing. Rugs absorb noise instead of bouncing the sound around. They are soft and comforting to sit on and to walk on. A rug with designated squares will give my students an assigned spot where they have their own personal space. Gathering at the meeting area on a rug is more engaging and my students are able to stay more focused. A rug is gives a sense of community where all are welcome.
