In the last two years, I have been making big changes in my classroom to meet my students needs. Students will be able to sit and do projects and groups in a more flexible way. I know I wouldn't want to sit for hours in a desk chair. With the materials provided projects and activities will enhance student learning and choice. This will enable students to make decisions and use the new tools that are provided to enhance their learning. The tables and chairs provided will be a flexible seating options that will stimulate student senses of touch. This type of stimulation will help children focus and is especially helpful to students with ADHD, ADD and ASD. When students are uncomfortable they are distracted and unproductive. Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom. Comfortable students are calm, focused and productive. To me this is a new, exciting way to learn. This would be a more student driven learning set up and make students more responsible for their own learning. Flexible seating will provide choice. Students learn best when they have control over their environment. This way of learning will help them later in life be more responsible adults. We are also going to work as a real world classroom. I have done many will provide students more choices and space to work on projects. The floor seating help with hands on projects, plus the flexible seating environment. Some students choose to sit on the floor to do projects. We are also a FOSS classroom. In Soc. St. our room has been turned into a crime scene and a breakout room. I plan on doing many more exciting activities using the new room layout and materials provided. Thank you!
