Creighton Middle School is a very diverse school in a quickly growing area in Lakewood, Colorado. I teach a very energetic group of eighth graders. They walk into my room every day with an eagerness to learn that amazes me. I strive to keep my curriculum engaging and up to date in order to keep that energy focused on language arts. We focus on projects that help us celebrate our differences and recognize what makes us a united community. Our initial unit is a memoir told as a Moth Story Slam that relates each student's personal story. We continue the year by exploring different aspects of our society, both past and present. Through our own stories and those of others, we are able to make great academic growth while simultaneously focusing on personal growth and working on developing our global citizenship skills.
