I teach kindergarten in a low income/high risk elementary school. We have had full day kindergarten for two years now. My classroom is the high-risk classroom. We work on social emotional skills as well as academic learning everyday. My students learn about the importance of doing hard things, persevering, honoring mistakes, and "growing our brains." The academic requirements in kindergarten are high, but we try to achieve those while having plenty of fun and working as a team. Thanks to donors, we have many flexible seating options and students have the freedom to choose to work in the best way for themselves. We often meet and talk about setting our own goals and tracking our learning. I love being able to set a strong foundation for the earliest learners!
