I teach 17 wonderful second graders in Maryland. My classroom has a wide variety of students. They are mostly immigrants from a variety of countries. They are excited to learn the English language, and they have huge aspirations. They have the most significant obstacles (91% poverty, 75% lack the English language, hunger, and/or special needs) to overcome. Yet, every day, they come to school ready and willing to put in 100% effort. They amaze me every day! Their school is the center of the community, nestled among the apartments in which my students live. There are clothing drives, food drop offs, and special programs for parents to learn how to speak English. The school's staff, in short, will stop at no costs to help the community. How does the school staff provide so much for the students of Broad Acres? From donations, and help from people like you!
