These problem solving journals will help students work through the problem solving process while explaining their thinking. So many of these students are English Language Learners and the visual part of these journals would help their strategic thinking while solving problems. These journals also provide students plenty of writing space to explain their thinking as they try to solve the problem. Students will solve real world word problems by using various strategies to investigate and prove their answers. Once students have a firm grasp on these strategies, they will be able to use them throughout the rest of their school career.
