My students use colored pencils on a weekly basis to color and label diagrams of cells, atoms, body systems, etc. When the students use colored pencils, they are able to more fully understand and differentiate the parts of the diagram. Colorful diagrams also help students to remember and retain what they have learned. In the absence of a diagram, they can better visualize the information they need to solve a problem. However, they are junior high kids who don't always read the instructions as carefully as they should. Erasers on these colored pencils save paper, headaches (for the students and myself), and precious time. Erasers also allow students to make mistakes, but fix these mistakes and move on.
