The use of technology is a standard in my classroom. Not only do I use Google Classroom as an interactive tool during class, but it is also used for almost all homework assignments. In addition, I use interactive "book clubs," in which students develop those 21st-century skills, such as creating agendas, note-taking in technology, digital organization, etc., while simultaneously deepening their understanding of the text that they are discussing. Technology is the basis of my classroom learning, and yet I have students that don't have access to technology at home, and it is difficult to always reserve Chromebook carts. I often try and have a technology device available for them after school to complete their homework, or I will try and buy them text alternatives. However, it is not enough. This is why I am requesting the maximum amount of Chromebooks I can, in addition to a cart to lock them up in my classroom. I hope in the future to be able to acquire more Chromebooks to offer them as a resource to students, both in class and after school. In addition, I run the OneGoal program at my school, and through this post-secondary success program, students are preparing for their lives after high school. This three-year-long program is targeted towards first-generation students or students that are on the cusp of academic success, and just need the supports to sustain it post-high school. We will be using our class time to prepare for success after high school by writing our college essays, preparing our college applications and applying to schools in the fall, applying for FAFSA and other scholarships. The program also continues through their first year of college. Technology is at the basis of all of these tasks, and we need it to ensure their future success!
