Students in my program have the wonderful opportunity of learning essential job skills through our school based enterprises in our Career Lab. Each job/task that students complete is carefully evaluated and given feedback. Skills gained from working and learning in the Career Lab are preparing my students for job training in real businesses. Because my students earn a high school credential, rather than a diploma, and go directly into the workforce after high school, it is essential for me to build job skills in jobs of interest. My students in 9th and 10th grade spend a great deal of time working in the Career Lab to build soft skills and job skills that prepare them for Job internships and apprenticeships in their 11th and 12th grade year. This is the first year I officially have a career lab and the supplies I am requesting will be integral part of the success of our career lab. The students and I know exactly what we want to do with them. We just need your help. The Chromebook and printer will allow students interested in using technology an opportunity to create and print designs for buttons for our button making enterprise. Students will also have the opportunity to learn how to create spreadsheets and keep up with with inventory for our Greenhouse and Food Co-op Enterprise. The Chromebook and printer will also be used to teach students about marketing and advertising. Students will have the opportunity to create ads and market our products. Our school based enterprises generate the funds necessary to provide transportation for our community based learning experiences and our job internships and apprenticeships. But more importantly, they provide opportunities for students to learn essential job skills that will prepare them for the world of work after high school.
