My students are those who have been diagnosed with emotional/behavioral disorders, such as ADHD, ODD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc. They are in a public school setting and are included in their regular education classrooms. Most of my students have difficulty with self control, attentiveness, adaptation to changes in routine and a low frustration tolerance. Since they are included in their regular education classrooms, they must monitor their own behavior and knowingly make positive choices. They come see the Emotional Support classroom for a portion of every day to learn the different coping skills and social skills they will need to succeed in their classrooms. They also come to the Emotional Support room for two different types of breaks. A therapeutic break allows a student who is frustrated to calm down. A sensory break allows those students with sensory needs a few minutes to indulge in those sensation cravings such as listening to calming music, squeezing putty, etc.
