My students come from poor backgrounds and many cannot afford basic supplies for Language Arts such as paper and pencil. Student literacy scores are at a staggering low in my area and I choose to combat this by having my students become proficient readers and writers. In order to do this, they need the basic supplies and somewhere to store their supplies where they won't get lost or damaged. Lockers are expensive and there aren't enough for all our school's students, so a bookshelf will truly help my classes have somewhere to store items where they know they will be easy to access and safe from harm. By donating to this project, you not only will be helping me combat poor literacy scores, but you will be helping my students succeed in areas they never thought possible. Supplies such as pencils and paper are trivial for some but to these kids, they will make all the difference.
