We are looking for an iPad for our ASD classroom. Technology is such an important part of our lives. Integrating technology into classroom instruction would yield improved student engagement as well as more interactive educational activities. An iPad would also allow for further differentiated instruction which is extremely important in special education classrooms. Another benefit is the plethora of communication apps that would provide another way for nonverbal students to communicate their wants and needs. It’s especially important for nonverbal students to be exposed to technology like iPads since there is potential for them as they get older to have a high tech augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device, some are very similar to an iPad and some are actual iPads themselves. If they are able to safely access and navigate an iPad, they may be good candidates for a high tech communication device in the future.
