In my class, I teach in small chunks with a lot of breaks because the kiddos are just that, kids! During our rotations, as well as our small group times, we allow students to read to themselves, read with a friend, work on writing, work on word building skills, and listen to reading on iPads, as well as growing in their math skills during math rotations. All of the books on the iPads are on very entertaining apps and there are also reading and math skill games that are personalized to each student's learning level. In a class of 23 to 25 kindergarten students, noise levels can increase which makes it hard for each kiddo to hear their own tablet without headphones. Also, not just any kind of headphones (I've tried), but sturdy, kinder-friendly headphones. Cords and wires are such trouble for the little ones, so the ones with a coiled cord are a must! We want our students to enjoy all the different learning styles that we offer here at school as well as increase their level of independence and self-confidence.
