Currently, my students want to go to our best available high schools and, eventually, college. They are inspired by stories of what can be achieved, activities they complete, what they've seen online, and hear in books of what can be created. Exposures such as students making 3-D digital renders of their STEAM prototypes and incorporating physics into play keep them competing with non-inner city schools so their dreams of becoming engineers, doctors, and football players are more within reach. They work hard and use what technology we have even though it is slow and sometimes does not work. All district texts are on tablets to which my students have not been exposed. The apps and programs exposure will have them more expert at what they will need. Their success depends upon how fast they can adapt to those high school requirements. By using the Amazon tablets, the students will have hands-on practice with those apps, programs, and texts that prepare them for what's ahead increasing the possibility for future successes. Oh, the projects we will be able to do and how surprised their new teachers will be!
