This year I have tried using flexible seating in my classroom and I have scene a marketable difference in their attitude. Over the summer I had purchased bean bags, bungee chairs, and a very large dog for which to lean against when they are on the rug. All of this has been a wonderful addition to my classroom. My middle school students love to have the independence of making their own choices, even if it's just where they can sit to do their work. The products I have chosen will help students by giving them additional seating options during direct instruction. The wobble stools are easily used at students desk or carried to a table for those who just need to get those wiggles out. The bouncy bands are for my students that have attention problems and are generally disruptive to others. These are the students who will benefit from the bands making their feet move, allowing them to focus their energy on their work. Both the bands and alternative seating have been researched and are encouraged for those students who's need to always be moving is high. I have seen how choice can affect my students work and attitude and know that additional options will help them obtain their goals even faster!
