My name is Sarah Persin, and I am the high school orchestra director at McKeesport Area HS. My students are part of the 9th-12th grade orchestra program located just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Our music department is continuing to thrive despite an increasingly tightened budget. There is no doubt in my mind that this is because of the resilience and passion encompassed by my students. The students in my building are incredibly deserving and hard working. They fill their schedules with a rigorous academic load and fill their extra time often with a job, extra-curricular activities, and of course, MUSIC.
