I chose four different sitting options (and two different sizes) so all my students, from the smallest one to the older ones, have an opportunity to regulate their body and mind while focussing on whatever the task may be. Students often feel dysregulated when they have been referred to me. These seats will offer an additional strategy for them to regain control over themselves while utilizing words to process what happened, identify the problem and brainstorm how to solve the problem. At times students come work in my office to complete work when they are struggling in the classroom setting. More and more I am noticing that students are able to engage in tasks when sitting if they are able to continue to have some physical movement (getting some small wiggles out). I can relate to them as I struggle myself to sit still all day and utilize a sitting ball myself to complete any desk work.
