Hurricane Harvey recently came through and "redecorated" our school. All of the carpet had to be ripped out, and our class was moved into a portable because our room was completely uninhabitable. We are currently teaching in a portable with less than half of our materials needed to sufficiently help the students learn. The kids have been through quite a lot in their home lives with this storm. Some are living in flood-damaged homes, some are living with relatives, and a few will never be able to live in their homes again. They have a lot on their minds, and it is difficult for them to concentrate when they are at school. Coming to a new classroom that is not properly equipped for learning is difficult for students each day. I would like to integrate these new supplies, including the button and shape sorting centers, to help my students be excited to learn each day. I also think that they will just adore the idea of learning with this light table and manipulatives. It is time to bring some fun into these kids' days and help them process their stress.
