Scholastic News/Science Spin will provide the students with exposure to informational (non-fiction) text on their grade level. These magazines also help with comprehension, locating answers to questions in text, analyzing and supporting central idea, and using text and graphic features. All of these skills are tested on our end of grade tests. One of my students said, "a magazine is an iPad that does not work." My students love to read Scholastic News. The magazines will be sent home each week, have colorful photos, grade-level topics (animals, government, and habitats). Having these magazines in the home will help build the students' at-home libraries, provide non-fictional reading opportunities, and build on independent learning. Without your help, I won't be able to get these magazines for my kiddos.
