My students are eager to learn and thirsty for new experiences - and they are also from some of the neediest families in Washington, D.C. Nearly one third of my school's students are homeless. My kiddos come to school excited to learn every day, however they often start prekindergarten with less vocabulary and exposure to pre-academic skills than other peers in our nation's capital. For the students I teach with disabilities, the gap can be even wider.
