By having access to books written in Spanish, my students will be able to practice reading aloud to each other as well as to younger siblings. Reading familiar stories in a second language will help students connect the words to the English understanding and find their uses in the Spanish language. Students will also find the confidence they need to be comfortable speaking a second language in daily conversation. On the other hand, students who listen to others read in a second language will also learn as they focus on the meanings and pronunciations of those words. How beneficial would it be for students to know the basics of a second language as they join the work force? Spanish is the second highest spoken language in the United States, so it makes sense that this be a common language chosen to learn. We can make learning a second language more meaningful by providing real-world experiences, fun activities, and competition. In addition to a variety of books written in Spanish, I am also requesting a set of Learning Buzzers to aid in playing review games such as Jeopardy in the classroom. Additionally, I am requesting a search and find book that will help students when they finish their work early. They can continue to improve their language skills.
