My school emphasizes leadership. One of the tenants of Leader In Me (LIM) is to start with the end in mind. The students envisioned their final draft of their myth story assignment (they had to write their own myth using a Common-Core aligned rubric). The students imagined their typed-final to be cut in certain sections, and pasted on hard-cover books. They also imagined the artistic aspect to be on the front cover (they may draw it, paint it, print an image and color it, etc). They also imagined the various images included in the book as the story unfolds. Having hardcover books to showcase their stories will help them learn how to add a visual to stories as it unfolds. Knowing that it will be displayed in a way that many people outside of their class will view it, they will more careful to make sure their books complement and add to their myth narratives. The books will also help students hone their social skills seeing that they will build off each other's strengths: the children who aren't as artistically inclined will seek help from group members who are more artistic.
