I teach reading and writing to 6th grade students at Rogers Park Middle School. We have many students who speak English as a second language, are recent immigrants to this country, or speak a second language at home with family. My goal is to provide them with the best instruction possible so that they can love reading. As a new teacher, I worked through donors choose to update the library with diverse texts that actually represent my students. I also hoped that this would allow them to read books about kids with different cultures, abilities, and life experiences. I believe that reading can empower children to love themselves, understand others, and apply life lessons from texts to their own life. We rely on classroom technology to help them improve their writing and communication skills as well.
