The Rock and Talk project is intended to provide space for staff and students to just sit with no technology and talk to one another in rocking chairs. Focusing on the social emotional needs of our community, we are trying to use rocking chairs for students and staff to use while finding a quiet moment to talk with others, free of technology while building our school community. Maybe this is the building blocks of less violence and hatred. Most of our students are bused to school and cannot connect with others outside of school. We want to use this opportunity to help alleviate school suspensions by providing a place where students can sit for a minute get themselves back together and go back to class through regulation of their emotions. Research shows that rocking is an effective tool while combating anxiety and it is the lowest cost and longest lasting tool we would like to try.
