My first graders will participate in the Global Read Aloud. We, along with other classes around the world, will read the same selected books over a period of five weeks. We live in a diverse world. The Global Read Aloud project promotes reading and exposes children to different cultures. It is important that children have access to books which serve as windows and mirrors. Children need to see their own experiences reflected in books (mirrors) and read about experiences different than their own (windows). The books ordered will provide windows and mirrors for my first graders. They will also keep a journal to record thoughts, feelings, or observations about the selected books. I greatly appreciate any donations and support of my classroom.
