These books will add to and enrich the experience of reading, sharing, and discussing the printed word. The House on Mango Street will help broaden their world perspective in seeing how others live. We read an excerpt from this novel last year in their textbooks. Boy, were they upset that the whole story wasn't there and were so disappointed there was only one copy in the library ,which had been checked out years ago and never returned or replaced. The only way to get better at reading is to read more! Students in this group have gotten so good at discussing and really digging into books with story lines to which they can relate. This novel, as well as Bless Me, Ultima, will enrich our classroom library, giving students more choice of reading material to share with their book circles.
