5th grade reading and writing standards are enjoyable to teach through novel studies. I've watched students learn through class and personal novel studies the last 5 years. I've watched students love for reading and writing become more successful. This year I am in a new district that does not have literature sets making it difficult to read class novels with students. If I have thirty plus copies of any novel set geared towards 5th grade students, I would be able to dive deeper into reading and writing standards. Novel sets on our class wish list: "Sounder", "Boy at War", "Lost Star", "Secret Garden", "Esperanza Rising"
