Using the 23 and Me genetic testing kits will give my students the hands-on experience of sampling DNA and studying their very own genetic makeup. This is hugely beneficial because they can take "ownership" of their learning with this project. They will get to see for themselves the genetics that makes us unique. This will allow them to personalize their learning. Instead of learning about "generic" genetic testing, they will get their individualized results to help them better understand not only how genetics works, but how genes have spread globally through immigration.
