My students come from very diverse backgrounds. The major factor that links most of them is poverty. 90% of the school receives free or reduced lunch. From my experience, most of these students have a major deficit in their background knowledge and experiences, as compared with students from higher socioeconomic groups. As their science teacher, I have to build that background before I can move forward with teaching the standards as required by the state. The project I am requesting from DonorsChoose will help to bring the outside world to my students, expose them to exciting organisms and concepts that they haven't previously been privileged to see and expand their world knowledge.
