Emergencies at school are something that we hope will not happen, but we must be prepared for when they do. An AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) is a piece of equipment that is used by a CPR-trained individual, such as myself, as the school nurse, or select staff members. Per the American Heart Association, early defibrillation, combined with CPR, is often the only manner to restore a normal heart rhythm and every minute that passes without both defibrillation and CPR decreases the chances of survival by 7-10%. We have the staff who are trained for CPR, but now need your help in funding the cost of an AED. Although our school is known for academics, it is our goal to also excel in sports and an AED on site will create a more emergency prepared environment. Sports, such as soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, and track, place an additional strain on the body for any student. Additionally, we have certain students that will be required to have AED on-site in order to play sports due to health conditions. An AED for our school site will allow us to perform the most effective and life-saving CPR in an emergency situation. This will benefit all of our students and staff members, while also allowing all of our students to enjoy sports.
