My students are in first grade at a Title One school. A large percentage qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Over forty percent of our students are English Language Learners from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. They are in a low, socio-economic area and many do not have resources or help at home to improve their skills. My school works hard to ensure that our students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally, but we have limited resources for technology. We have no PTA or fundraisers to add to our funds. My students love to learn and work very hard. However, they do not have access to technology at home and we do not have a computer lab at school for them to use. They love interacting with technology when I project from the document camera, and remember and connect better during these times. If I can get them excited about reading and math by integrating technology with our learning, I know they will make great strides to improve and be at or above grade level.
