The pandemic and the new world of blended/remote learning has been difficult on everyone; no one will deny that. But imagine not having the level of comprehension necessary to understand what is happening and why everything is different. For most of our students, their safe spaces are home and school. When the world changed, their safe spaces also changed. This makes it important to work with the entire child and pay attention to their needs, not just physically but also emotionally. Imagine not being able to appropriately express yourself the way other around you do or having anxiety about the changed world you are living in. For typically developing people, the pandemic was hard and increased the anxiety and stress levels in many. For our students who also have limitations and disabilities, they do not understand what is happening or how to manage these feelings. Having a variety of flexible seating options will help ease the anxieties and stressors of the students transitioning back into classrooms.
