My young artists are growing up through a global pandemic, whether we are partially in person or remote it's important for them to continue discovering their identities through artistic expression.
My students experience tremendous joy and comfort during stressful times by creating artwork. Artists will create handmade sketchbooks to carry with them and utilize for inspiration and self reflection. Sketchbooks also help artists plan and revise art projects through out the year. Paintbrushes and paints will be used for identity portraits, abstract monotype prints, and imaginary landscapes. Water-soluble colored pencils have the magic quality of being both a colorful pencil and watercolor paint! As students discover different art media like this, they also deepen their foundational knowledge of the elements of art.
Artists create personal artwork like positive affirmation posters, and social justice/environmental movement flags as a way to share with their community. My students develop a change maker mindset for not only themselves, but for the brighter future of society.
All young artists deserve access to a range of art materials to communicate and uncover their creative potential and identity. Donating to this project will provide continuous learning opportunities to enrich students creative development and critical thinking skills during this pandemic.
